JNB – Johannesburg Airport is one of my absolute favourites in the world. Since my first visit in April 1998, I am hooked. During a visit in 2002 I spent a lot of time airside shooting. The variety in traffic is fantastic. From the big widebodies to the regional Embrairs.
Back in 2002 I was fortunate to do a photo shoot with Nationwide in South Africa. I got to fly all of their different aircraft types in their fleet to many great destinations. What triggered me most was the flights I did on the Bac 1-11.

As I left my keys to the hotel reception he asked what my destination was for the day. (He had learned by now that I fly to a new destination every morning.) I said Bosaso in Somalia and he looked at me and said: Good luck Sir, that’s a dangerous area. Not quite what I [...]
As soon as all passengers and luggage were on board we started the start up procedure again. Squeeze into the tight cockpit and find my spot to stand until we reach the runway and I get to sit down and prepare my cameras for take off.
